Here are ten advanced word of general-use that you can incorporate into your essays and advance your writing style.
- propagation
Propagation refers to the act of spreading something. It typically refers to the spread of ideas or information.
Ex. The propagation of rumors through social media have widespread consequences.
- children
Instead of repeating the word children the whole time while writing, here are some synonyms: offspring, progeny, prosperity, young individuals, adolescents, and future generations. Of course, there are slight differences in usage based on the context. So, you’ll have to be smart on what to use and when.
Ex. For the sake of future generations, we have a responsibility towards the wellbeing of our planet.

Ex. One’s offspring can be their most important individuals in their lives.

Integral is synonymous to essential or necessary.
Ex. Good communication between caregivers and their offspring can play an integral role in the development of a child’s brain.
- minimize the risks = mitigate the consequences
Ex. We can mitigate the harmful consequences of social media by limiting screen time allowed to children.
Ex. We can minimize the risks of social media by limiting screen time allowed to children.
- renege on a proffer
To renege on a proffer means to retract or go back on a proposal that was previously made.
Ex. If governments were to renege on the proffer of reducing carbon footprint that is emitted into the atmosphere, future generations would suffer sever consequences.
- undergo
Undergo means to experience, endure, or go through a process.
Ex. Preadolescents undergoing the pressure of standardized tests should seek professional help if needed.
- a comforting effect
It is a good collocation that convey positive meaning easily.
Ex. Seeking help from certified professionals can mitigate the pressure of difficult situation.
- skip the reference
Ex. We cannot skip the reference to the Industrial Revolution when discussing global warming.
- negative social implications
Ex. The imposition of standardized tests on young individuals can have negative social implications as they struggle to develop the interpersonal skills needed to succeed at life.
- to effect a change
This means to bring about or achieve a change. It implies taking actions or implementing measures that lead to a specific outcome.
Ex. For environmentalists to effect a change, they need to unify their efforts and gain the support of the public.
